{"id":14489,"date":"2012-05-31T11:25:18","date_gmt":"2012-05-31T11:25:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nccdh-dev.media-doc.ca\/btg-reflection-2\/"},"modified":"2025-10-01T19:26:34","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T19:26:34","slug":"btg-reflection-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nccdh-dev.media-doc.ca\/fr\/btg-reflection-2\/","title":{"rendered":"NCCDH hosts workshop on bridging the gap between research and practice in health equity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\tIn February of this year, we collaborated with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Institute of Population and Public Health (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/13787.html\">CIHR-IPPH<\/a>) and several partners to host a 2 day workshop aimed at bridging the gap between research and practice in health equity. Health equity, the absence of unfair and avoidable differences in health among population groups defined socially, economically, demographically or geographically, was integrated into all aspects of the workshop including practice- and research-driven sessions. The workshop brought together 60 researchers and practitioners from across Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tUsing presentations and interactive components, the workshop aimed to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\t\tExamine approaches to recognize health inequities and increase ability to use tools to address health equity during research, program planning, implementation, and\/or evaluation building on the <a href=\"https:\/\/nccdh-dev.media-doc.ca\/fr\/learn\/\/entry\/scan\">NCCDH environmental scan <\/a><\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tStrengthen ability to integrate research and practice-based evidence into planning, implementing and evaluating public health interventions, as well as to monitor action and create opportunities to adjust based on the evidence.<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tIdentify opportunities for sustained knowledge translation and create stronger links between researchers and public health practitioners who are addressing health equity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\tOn the first day, four case studies that highlighted the intersection between practice and research were presented.&nbsp;Learn more about the the case studies&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nccdh-dev.media-doc.ca\/fr\/news\/\/entry\/casestudy-news\">here<\/a>.&nbsp;A panel of researchers that described tools to link evidence and action on health equity was featured on the second day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAt the close of the workshop, <a href=\"https:\/\/nccdh-dev.media-doc.ca\/fr\/our-centre\/our-staff\/connie-clement\/\">Connie Clement<\/a>, Scientific Director, <a href=\"https:\/\/nccdh-dev.media-doc.ca\/fr\/our-centre\/\">NCCDH<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/12201.html\">Nancy Edwards<\/a>, Scientific Director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/13777.html\">CIHR-IPPH<\/a>, expressed a commitment on behalf of their organizations to consider workshop outcomes and continue to support bridging the gap between evidence and action on health equity. Participants also identified opportunities that they could commit to act upon.
