How to use the Mind the Disruption podcast for health equity education, professional development and capacity building

The Canadian public health community has repeatedly asked for applied examples of how practitioners are advancing health equity.

The Mind the Disruption podcast is one of the ways the National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health (NCCDH) responds to this need, weaving together interviews with public health practitioners, community organizers, researchers and more.

Mind the Disruption is about people who refuse to accept things as they are, who are pushing for better health for all, and who have a deep desire to build a healthier, more just world.

Over four seasons, 22 episodes, and 32 guests, we have explored numerous underexamined health equity topics such as migrant health, environmental racism, cultural safety and climate injustice and how to advance health equity through a range of approaches such as policy change, public health practice, research and partnerships.

Through Mind the Disruption, we aim to promote emerging health equity evidence and knowledge, tools, models and promising practices to address structural and social determinants of health and health inequities.

Educators and practitioners are already using episodes with students and the public health workforce to build capacity for health equity action.

This webinar will explore opportunities to use the Mind the Disruption podcast – an innovative knowledge translation tool – to support health equity education, professional development and capacity building.

Who should attend?

Educators, students, public health practitioners and decision-makers looking to build capacity for health equity action.

Objectives:

  • Describe the range of health equity topics and approaches explored within Mind the Disruption episodes.
  • Explore examples of how Mind the Disruption episodes are being currently used to support health equity education and capacity building.
