The National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health (NCCDH) works to move knowledge into action on the conditions of daily life in which people are born, grow up, live, work, play, learn, and age and the driving forces that shape these conditions – the structural and social determinants of health.
NCCDH supports uptake and integration of relevant knowledge and evidence in public health practice, programs and policy through development of evidence-informed resources, exchanging promising practices with the Canadian public health community and bringing together diverse voices and multisectoral perspectives.
WHAT ARE THE DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH?
Determinants of health refer to the factors that influence the health of individuals, communities and populations.

STRATEGIC PRIORITES
NCCDH works toward the following strategic priorities:
- SUPPORT public health to address the structural determinants of health.
- PROMOTE public health evidence-informed action on the everyday conditions of daily life, and the wider set of driving forces that shape these conditions and influence health and equity.
- SUPPORT a culture of equity in public health organizations and the health system.
- CONTRIBUTE to innovative knowledge translation methods and tools to advance health equity.
These strategic priorities are significantly informed by our Advisory Board; our pan-Canadian environmental scans, and the 2011 report entitled “10 promising practices to guide local public health practice to reduce inequities in health.”
